Liverpool Could Hijack Antoine Semenyo Deal as Man City Yet to Seal £65m Transfer
Antoine Semenyo looks set to depart Bournemouth in a high-profile £65 million move, with Manchester City long viewed as favourites, but the transfer race may not be over yet. Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has suggested there could be an unexpected late development that allows Liverpool to enter the picture for the Ghana international.

Despite City’s sustained interest, no agreement has been formally completed, leaving the door open for other suitors to intervene. With uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future at Anfield, Liverpool are continuing to weigh their attacking options, and Semenyo remains firmly on their radar.
Bournemouth are already preparing for life without their star winger after clauses in his Vitality Stadium contract were activated. Semenyo delivered a memorable farewell moment by scoring a dramatic 95th-minute winner in a 3-2 victory over Tottenham, a result that strengthened the club’s Premier League safety with a 12-point cushion above the relegation zone.
Head coach Andoni Iraola has openly acknowledged that Semenyo is likely approaching the end of his Bournemouth journey. Speaking to Sky Sports, Iraola admitted the forward appears to be heading for the exit, pending medical checks and final paperwork, while praising him as one of the finest players he has coached.
Manchester City have been tracking Semenyo since before Christmas, with Pep Guardiola keen to further bolster an already formidable attack that includes Erling Haaland, Omar Marmoush, Jeremy Doku, Savinho and Oscar Bobb. However, Guardiola recently cast doubt on the certainty of any imminent move, stating he was unsure how the transfer window would unfold.
That uncertainty has fuelled speculation that rival clubs could still act. Alongside links to Manchester United, Liverpool have been mentioned as a potential late challenger. Redknapp believes Arne Slot may yet consider a move, questioning why the Reds would ignore a proven match-winner amid questions over Salah’s longevity.
Since joining Bournemouth from Bristol City in January 2023, Semenyo’s reputation has risen sharply. After a slow adaptation period, he netted 13 goals in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign and has already reached double figures again this season.
While many see him as a natural successor to Salah on Liverpool’s right flank, the Premier League champions will need to act swiftly if they hope to disrupt City’s plans and pull off a major transfer coup.
