Alexander Isak Reveals First Impressions of Liverpool After Record-Breaking Anfield Move

The 26-year-old forward endured a disrupted start to life at Anfield after missing pre-season training with Newcastle amid his push to complete the move. That lack of preparation left Isak playing catch-up in terms of fitness, leading to a slow introduction into Arne Slot’s lineup.
Isak has featured three times in the Premier League so far, starting on two occasions, and netted his first goal for Liverpool in a 2-1 EFL Cup victory against Southampton. The match also saw teammate Giovanni Leoni suffer a season-ending ACL injury, overshadowing the Swede’s breakthrough strike.
The striker’s adaptation period has coincided with a busy international schedule. Despite limited minutes at club level, Isak was named in Sweden’s squad for their World Cup qualifying fixtures against Switzerland and Kosovo. Sweden are targeting their first win of the campaign after a 2-2 draw with Slovenia and a 2-0 defeat to Kosovo.
During an interview ahead of Sweden’s clash with Switzerland, Isak described his early experience at Liverpool as positive, telling Sport Witness: “Great so far. A great team and a city where the team has a good relationship with the fans. It’s been great so far.” His words reflect the strong connection between the club and its supporters, who have continued to back him despite a modest start in front of goal.
Isak also addressed his fitness progress, explaining that he feels closer to full sharpness following weeks of consistent match action. The forward stated, “Tomorrow I’m ready for 90 minutes if needed. It’s been a month now. I’ve gotten a lot more playing time, and things have calmed down. I feel in a much better position now than last time.”
Liverpool’s form has dipped ahead of the international break, with Slot’s side suffering three consecutive defeats across all competitions. A 2-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea followed narrow defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, the latter resulting in a hamstring injury for goalkeeper Alisson, who is sidelined until after the November break. Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to continue in goal in the Brazilian’s absence.
Liverpool will resume their domestic campaign against Manchester United at Anfield next weekend. United enter the fixture buoyed by a 2-0 win over Sunderland, as Ruben Amorim looks to record consecutive league victories for the first time since replacing Erik ten Hag last November.
