Will Salah Stay at Liverpool? Szoboszlai Speaks on Forward’s Future
Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed that he kept in touch with Mohamed Salah almost daily during the Africa Cup of Nations, though he avoided shedding light on the forward’s uncertain future at Liverpool. The Hungarian midfielder emphasized that Salah’s ongoing disagreement with manager Arne Slot is a matter strictly "between the manager and the club."

Salah’s relationship with Slot has dominated headlines after the Egyptian forward gave an explosive interview claiming a breakdown with the Dutch coach. The remarks have sparked speculation about Salah’s time at Anfield potentially coming to an end, leaving fans and pundits anxiously waiting for clarity.
Szoboszlai, however, stressed that their personal bond remains strong. "Yes, to be honest, almost every day," he said regarding their communication since Salah departed on December 15 for AFCON. "We speak about everything. I'm following him, I guess he is following me. We talk a lot."
When asked about whether Salah will stay at Liverpool, the 25-year-old maintained a diplomatic stance. "That's between me and him," he added. "He will come back and then we keep on going. It's the decision between the manager and the club." Salah trained with teammates recently, but it remains uncertain if he will feature in the upcoming Champions League clash against Marseille.
Liverpool’s recent draw with Burnley underlined the importance of Salah on the field. Despite creating 32 shots, the Reds could only score once, lacking the finishing touch Salah has consistently provided. Szoboszlai, who missed a penalty in that match, tried to find a silver lining. "That's the first time we have played really well against a low block and created a lot of chances," he said. "We had loads of guys in the box, we had crosses and shots. That is what we have to aim for against Marseille."
The midfielder also addressed criticism after a high-profile FA Cup mistake against Barnsley. Attempting a back-heel in his own penalty area gifted the opposition a goal, prompting Barnsley’s manager Conor Hourihane to call the attempt “disrespectful.” Szoboszlai refuted this claim, saying he would attempt the same play against any opponent.
Despite missing another penalty against Burnley—his second from 22 attempts—Szoboszlai remains confident he can step in when needed. He also revealed that contract negotiations are ongoing at Anfield, securing his long-term future.
