Joe Gomez Unsure Over Liverpool Future as Defender Admits 'Anything Can Happen' This Summer

‎Liverpool FC defender Joe Gomez has admitted he does not know whether he will still be at Anfield next season, raising further questions about his future ahead of the summer transfer window.
‎The versatile 28-year-old is entering the final year of his current contract, and uncertainty continues to grow over whether Liverpool will extend his stay or allow him to move on after more than a decade at the club.

‎Gomez has remained an experienced figure within the Liverpool squad, but his opportunities under manager Arne Slot have become increasingly limited. He has started only six Premier League matches in each of the last two seasons, despite his ability to operate across multiple defensive positions.
‎Liverpool have also strengthened their defensive options by securing deals for young defenders Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet. Their arrivals add to a backline that already includes Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, increasing the competition for places.
‎Speaking about his future, Gomez acknowledged that he cannot predict what will happen during the upcoming transfer window.
‎He said: “I think anything can happen. I don't know is the honest answer. I've only got a year left so I don't know but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess. But I'm so grateful to have had this time here at this club. I'll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this. All I can do is be thankful and we'll see.”
‎The defender’s comments suggest the possibility that his long association with Liverpool could come to an end this summer if the club chooses to sell before his contract situation becomes more complicated.
‎Since arriving from Charlton Athletic FC in 2015, Gomez has made 272 appearances for Liverpool and collected every major trophy available during his time at the club.
‎His honours include two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups, establishing him as one of the club’s most decorated current players.
‎Interest from Newcastle United FC and Aston Villa FC in the past also indicates there would likely be strong demand if Liverpool decide to part ways with the defender before his contract expires in 2027.
‎Liverpool must now decide whether Gomez still has a long-term role within the squad or whether this summer represents the best opportunity to facilitate a transfer.
‎The club could still depend on his experience during the closing weeks of the campaign, especially with a demanding domestic schedule ahead. However, with Konate nearing a new contract and Jacquet arriving from Rennes, Gomez faces a crucial period as he attempts to prove his value within Liverpool’s evolving squad.
