Liverpool Crisis Deepens as Mohamed Salah Questions Arne Slot and Calls for Jurgen Klopp’s 'Heavy Metal' Football

Mohamed Salah has publicly urged Liverpool to rediscover the aggressive “heavy metal” football that defined the Jurgen Klopp era, following the club’s crushing defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The Egyptian forward appeared to aim a subtle criticism at head coach Arne Slot’s tactical philosophy after Liverpool suffered their 12th league defeat of the season in the West Midlands. Salah’s comments reflected growing frustration over the team’s decline and loss of identity.

Taking to social media after the disappointing result, Salah delivered a passionate message about the standards Liverpool once represented under Klopp. He suggested the current side no longer carries the same fear factor that previously made the club dominant both domestically and in Europe.

Salah wrote: "I have witnessed this club go from doubters to believers, and from believers to champions. It took hard work and I always did everything I could to help the club get there. Nothing makes me prouder than that. Us crumbling to yet another defeat this season was very painful and not what our fans deserve. I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies."

Since taking charge at Anfield, Slot has implemented a calmer and more possession-oriented style compared to Klopp’s intense pressing system. However, with Liverpool struggling for consistency throughout the campaign, Salah insisted the club’s footballing identity should remain unchanged regardless of who is in charge.

The Liverpool star continued: "That is the football I know how to play and that is the identity that needs to be recovered and kept for good. It cannot be negotiable and everyone that joins this club should adapt to it. Winning some games here and there is not what Liverpool should be about. All teams win games. Liverpool will always be a club that means a great deal to me and to my family. I want to see it succeed for long after I have moved on."

Despite the concerns surrounding Liverpool’s performances, attention has now turned to securing qualification for next season’s Champions League. The defeat at Villa Park means the Reds must defeat Brentford in their final match to guarantee a top-five finish.

Salah reaffirmed his determination to help the club secure European football, saying: "As I’ve always said, qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen."

The Egyptian forward, who came on as a second-half substitute against Aston Villa alongside Florian Wirtz, is expected to start Liverpool’s final game at Anfield. The match will also serve as an emotional farewell after Salah officially confirmed he will leave the club at the end of the season.

Liverpool’s defeat against Aston Villa also highlighted the scale of the club’s struggles under Slot. The loss marked the Reds’ 19th defeat in all competitions this season and their 12th in the Premier League.

It also represented another unwanted milestone, as Liverpool conceded four goals in a league game for the first time during Slot’s two-year spell. The club’s total of 52 goals conceded is now the highest Liverpool have recorded in a 38-game Premier League campaign, underlining what has become one of the most disappointing title defences in recent history.
