Manchester United Warned by Paul Scholes Before Critical Liverpool Encounter
Paul Scholes has questioned Ruben Amorim’s tenure at Manchester United, claiming the Portuguese manager is “getting too much time” as pressure builds ahead of the club’s critical showdown with Liverpool. The former United midfielder expressed doubts about Amorim’s progress despite a recent 2-0 win over Sunderland that briefly lifted morale at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have endured inconsistent form under Amorim, managing just 19 wins in 50 games — a 38 percent success rate. That figure has sparked growing concern among fans and pundits who believe the team has yet to find its rhythm under his leadership.
During The Overlap Fan Debate hosted by Sky Bet, Scholes delivered a blunt assessment of United’s current situation. He suggested Amorim has been afforded more patience than previous managers, even as results continue to fluctuate.
“I feel like with Ruben Amorim it’s got to the point where we don’t want to talk about sacking managers all the time and Manchester United do give managers enough time,” Scholes said. “He’ll never get booed by the fans, but after that Brentford game where they lost 3-1, it felt like he’s getting a little bit too much time.”
The upcoming Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on October 19 looms as a defining moment for Amorim. Scholes believes the encounter will expose United’s vulnerabilities if they fail to approach it with a cautious mindset.
“Ruben Amorim needs to try and get something from Liverpool at Anfield,” Scholes explained. “I’d be thinking about drawing the game and finding a way to stop them from scoring. Manchester United are in such a rut that it’s almost predictable they’ll go to Anfield and get beaten.”
Manchester United have not managed back-to-back league wins since May 2024, emphasizing the scale of the challenge facing Amorim. The Liverpool fixture could serve as a pivotal moment in his reign. A positive result might help rebuild belief within the squad, but another loss would further fuel speculation about his future.
