Arne Slot Addresses Liverpool Sack Talk Amid Poor Run of Form

‎Liverpool manager Arne Slot has responded to growing speculation about his future as the club struggles through a difficult spell in their Premier League title defense. The reigning English champions have suffered six defeats in their last seven matches across all competitions, slipping seven points behind league leaders Arsenal.

‎The Reds began their season in dominant fashion, winning their first seven games and looking poised for another successful campaign. However, the momentum has since stalled following their September 27 match against Crystal Palace. A run of four straight league defeats has left the club in seventh place, intensifying pressure on Slot and his team.
‎Liverpool invested heavily in the summer transfer window to strengthen their squad, breaking the British transfer record twice to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. The club also brought in Hugo Ekitike and replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid, with Jeremie Frimpong. Despite these high-profile additions, recent performances have failed to meet expectations.
‎Addressing questions about his job security, Slot maintained that he continues to receive backing from Liverpool’s hierarchy.
‎“For me they say similar things,” he explained. “I speak mainly to Richard and once in a while to the others (Edwards and FSG). They also see similar things as what I see. The conversations haven’t changed much—we always talk about the game, and it’s always nicer when you’ve won.”
‎Slot emphasized that his comments about the squad were not intended as excuses. “If these players are all fit, we have so much quality. This club is in such a good place for both the short-term and the long-term future,” he said. “But not all of them were ready from the start to play three games in seven days. When you get four injuries like we have now, it becomes a struggle.”
‎The Liverpool boss noted that injuries to key players, including Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konaté, Joe Gomez, and Alexis Mac Allister, have impacted the team’s stability and performance.
‎When asked about potential contract talks, Slot dismissed the idea, stressing that his focus remains solely on improving results. “That is the last question I was expecting,” he said. “My focus can be completely on getting Liverpool back to winning ways. Contract talks, if they are even happening, are not something we discuss here. Let us first start to win again—that’s where my focus is.”
‎Liverpool faces a demanding run of fixtures as they aim to recover from their slump. The Reds host Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday, followed by a Champions League clash against Real Madrid on November 4, before meeting Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium five days later. The coming week could prove decisive in shaping both Slot’s tenure and Liverpool’s season ambitions.
