Liverpool Agreement Reached on Arne Slot Firing as 'Unexpected' Scenario Becomes Reality
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is under mounting scrutiny following the club’s sixth Premier League defeat in seven matches, a sharp contrast to the triumphs of his debut season. The Dutch coach, who guided the Reds to the Premier League title last year, endured another setback after a 3-0 home loss to Nottingham Forest, deepening concerns over the team’s form.

The 47-year-old enjoyed a dream start at Anfield after succeeding Jurgen Klopp, leading Liverpool to domestic glory in his first season. The current campaign, however, has taken a troubling turn as the squad struggles to replicate last year’s dominance. The latest result leaves Liverpool eight points adrift of the league leaders, raising questions about their ability to recover momentum.
Reports suggest that doubts are surfacing about Slot’s tactics and squad management. Despite an estimated £450 million ($589 million) summer investment aimed at reshaping the team, Liverpool have looked disjointed on the pitch. Much of the lineup remains from Klopp’s era, which some analysts believe could be affecting cohesion under the new system.
Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown told the BBC’s Final Score that Slot’s position remains secure for now, crediting his previous achievements. “The wheels are coming off now for Arne Slot,” Keown said. “He’s spent £450 million and they’re going backwards. But I don’t think you can win the league one year and get sacked the next.” He added that Liverpool’s decline from last season’s standards is “remarkable” and that six losses from seven matches are “unthinkable.”
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp also shared his perspective on Sky Sports, suggesting patience is crucial amid the club’s struggles. He noted that Klopp’s departure might now be taking its toll after an unexpectedly successful transition. “I thought there’d be a negative effect last season after Klopp left,” Redknapp said. “There wasn’t. They did something extraordinary and won the league. Right now, it’s a time for calm—this has been the most difficult pre-season imaginable for those players.”
Liverpool’s next fixtures will test Slot’s ability to steady the team and regain confidence after a turbulent start to the season.
