‎Liverpool Lead Marc Guehi Transfer Race as Crystal Palace Consider £35m January Sale Amid Bayern Munich Interest

‎Liverpool have returned to pole position in the pursuit of Marc Guehi, with Crystal Palace weighing up a potential January sale for the £35 million-rated defender. The Reds narrowly missed out on signing the England international last summer, but the situation has shifted as Palace explore options to avoid losing him for free when his contract runs out in summer 2026. Bayern Munich remain interested, yet Liverpool are currently considered the strongest contenders.

‎Crystal Palace are described as “convinced” that Liverpool lead the chase, according to Sky Sport Switzerland, as the window approaches. Guehi is set to become eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs from the start of January, a development that may accelerate Palace’s willingness to accept an offer. Bayern are reportedly still monitoring the centre-back but are viewed as “less active” than Liverpool ahead of the upcoming window.
‎Liverpool manager Arne Slot continues to field transfer questions as the team struggles with early-season form. A sixth league defeat, suffered against Nottingham Forest, has left the reigning Premier League champions in the lower half of the table. Slot was asked about potential winter business and indicated that defensive signings were not his immediate focus, noting that Liverpool currently have three centre-backs available along with additional players who can fill in if required.
‎Slot highlighted the team’s challenges with form, match fitness and pre-season setbacks. Several defenders remain unavailable, including Conor Bradley, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni, leaving five natural defenders to navigate seven matches across 21 days. Slot referenced the difficulty of integrating new players who join later in the summer and the increased reliance on those who are fully fit.
‎Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed Guehi will not sign a new contract at Selhurst Park. He reiterated that decisions regarding the defender’s future rest with the club, adding that Guehi continues to show full commitment on the pitch. Glasner also stressed the intensity of the upcoming fixture schedule and said he is not focused on the transfer window at this stage.
‎Liverpool invested heavily in their squad last summer, bringing in Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz, yet the team’s defensive vulnerabilities have persisted. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged the club to secure a centre-back in January, stating that a lack of depth places the season at risk if another injury occurs in the position.
