Arne Slot Says He Has 'No Clue' About Mohamed Salah's Future After Public Frustration
Arne Slot says he has “no clue” whether Mohamed Salah has played his last match for Liverpool after the forward’s public outburst following the 3-3 draw with Leeds United. The 33-year-old remained an unused substitute at Elland Road and later claimed the club had “thrown him under the bus,” raising questions about his future at Anfield.

Salah voiced his frustration shortly after the final whistle, stating that he felt someone at the club wanted him to “get all of the blame.” He said he believed he had earned his place in the starting lineup after increased time on the bench and reiterated his long-standing affection for Liverpool. His comments included claims that he no longer understood why his relationship with Slot appeared to have changed.
The Egypt international told reporters that he felt unwanted and unfairly criticised, describing repeated instances in which he believed he had been targeted. He said he remained committed to supporting the club and highlighted the contributions he has made since joining Liverpool, adding that the situation felt unacceptable from his perspective.
Liverpool responded by leaving Salah out of the squad for their Champions League match against Inter Milan. Slot addressed the media on Monday evening, stating that he did not feel his authority was under threat following the forward’s remarks. He emphasised his focus on the team and on the staff impacted by recent results, explaining that the situation was more significant for the club than for him personally.
Speculation regarding a potential split between Liverpool and Salah has intensified following the weekend. Slot did not confirm any future decisions when asked directly whether the forward had played his last game for the club. He responded by saying he had “no clue” and could not offer an answer at this time.
Salah trained with the first team on Monday, maintaining that his relationship with Slot had deteriorated after limited involvement in recent league matches. Slot said communication with Salah before Saturday’s match had been consistent and respectful, adding that the player’s comments came as a surprise. He noted that reactions from players who are not selected are not uncommon and explained that Salah’s omission from the Inter Milan squad reflected the club’s response.
Salah is scheduled to join Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations next week, with Liverpool’s match against Brighton potentially his final appearance before departing for the tournament. Slot avoided interpreting Salah’s claim that he had been “thrown under the bus,” stating he would need more clarity from the player about whom he was referring to. He reiterated that the club had acted following the comments and highlighted that Salah was not included in the travelling squad.
