Arne Slot in Talks for AC Milan Job Minutes After Liverpool Exit
Arne Slot could make an immediate return to management after being dismissed by Liverpool, with AC Milan reportedly moving quickly to appoint the Dutch coach as their next manager.
The former Liverpool boss, who guided the Reds to the Premier League title just a year ago, has emerged as a leading candidate for one of Europe’s biggest managerial positions. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Milan have already identified Slot as their main option to replace Massimiliano Allegri at the San Siro.

The Italian side are searching for a new direction after a disappointing campaign in Serie A. Allegri was dismissed following a season in which Milan finished fifth and failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second year running. Reports indicate that discussions between Milan and Slot’s representatives are already taking place.
Liverpool officially confirmed Slot’s departure on Saturday after two seasons in charge at Anfield. In a lengthy club statement, the Reds thanked the 47-year-old for his work during a challenging spell on Merseyside.
The club’s owners also acknowledged the difficult circumstances Slot managed during his tenure, including leading the squad through the emotional aftermath of Diogo Jota’s tragic death last summer.
Across his spell as Liverpool head coach, Slot took charge of 113 matches, registering 66 wins, 18 draws and 29 defeats. His most notable success came during the 2024-25 campaign when he delivered the club’s second league title in 35 years by winning the Premier League.
Despite that achievement, pressure around the Dutchman continued to build as results and performances declined. Supporters became frustrated by what many viewed as a conservative and "boring" playing style, especially when compared to the aggressive approach associated with his predecessor.
Mohamed Salah, who is set to leave Liverpool this summer after a breakdown in his relationship with Slot, publicly urged the club to return to the "heavy metal football" style that had previously defined the team under Jürgen Klopp.
With tensions growing around the AXA Training Centre, Liverpool ultimately decided a managerial change was required ahead of the new season.
Attention has now shifted towards Slot’s replacement at Anfield. Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is currently viewed as the leading contender after guiding the Cherries to a historic sixth-place finish and securing Europa League qualification for the first time in the club’s history.
Liverpool are also believed to be considering several alternative candidates, including Lens manager Pierre Sage, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, and Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeness.
