Ajax Eye Arne Slot in Manager Hunt but Liverpool Position Stays Firm
Ajax are reportedly showing interest in Liverpool manager Arne Slot, making an inquiry as part of their ongoing search for a new permanent head coach. Technical director Jordi Cruijff is leading the process as the club looks to appoint a successor to interim manager Oscar Garcia, while also planning a broader sporting rebuild.

Cruijff is believed to be targeting a high-level profile for the role, with Ajax reviewing several options. Girona’s Michel is currently regarded as a leading candidate, while reports also suggest that Slot was examined as a possible appointment. However, Peter Bosz—another coach admired within the club structure—has already extended his stay at PSV Eindhoven, limiting Ajax’s choices.
Despite the interest, the approach for Slot did not progress. According to journalist Mike Verweij, the Liverpool manager remains firmly committed to his current role, with no indication of openness to a return to Dutch football. The feedback surrounding the inquiry was clear, as neither Slot nor Liverpool appeared interested in any negotiation.
Slot’s reputation in the Netherlands remains strong due to his successful spell at Feyenoord. During his time there, he guided the club to the Eredivisie title in the 2022–23 season, followed by a KNVB Cup triumph the next year, and also reached the Conference League final in his three-year spell.
Now at Liverpool, Slot is under contract until June 2027 and continues to focus on his long-term project at Anfield. Despite a more difficult campaign in England, he is not expected to leave his post, with his attention on finishing the season strongly and securing Champions League qualification after Liverpool’s disappointing title defence.
Meanwhile, Ajax continue their search for stability as they prepare for significant structural changes under Cruijff’s direction, hoping to restore their domestic dominance and European competitiveness.
