Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah Linked With Sensational Roma Return
Mohamed Salah is reportedly attracting interest for a potential blockbuster return to Serie A, years after leaving Italy to begin a historic chapter with Liverpool. The Egyptian forward departed Roma in 2017, later becoming a record-breaking figure at Anfield and helping the club secure two Premier League titles. However, speculation is growing that his Liverpool journey could come to an end earlier than expected in 2026, with Roma keen on a reunion.

Questions continue to surface regarding Salah’s standing at Liverpool, particularly following a public and emotional reaction to being left out of the starting lineup. His frustration became evident after he was named among the substitutes, sparking intense debate about his role under the current regime.
Following those comments, Salah was omitted from a Champions League encounter against Inter but returned to action in a Premier League fixture versus Brighton before departing for Africa Cup of Nations duty. Despite the unrest, head coach Arne Slot has reiterated his desire to retain the influential 33-year-old attacker.
Salah appeared to suggest a possible January exit when speaking to reporters after a dramatic draw with Leeds, a match in which he remained on the bench. He expressed confusion and disappointment, stating that he felt unfairly blamed and believed assurances made to him during the summer had not been honoured. He also claimed that his previously strong relationship with the manager had broken down without explanation.
The Liverpool star went further, explaining that he did not feel protected by the club and rejected the idea that he was the source of the team’s problems. Salah emphasized the contribution he has made over the years and insisted that the respect he has earned should be reflected in how he is treated, even while acknowledging that such situations are part of football.
When questioned about whether he regretted signing a contract extension that runs until the summer of 2027, Salah dismissed the notion but admitted the situation was painful. He maintained that he never regretted committing his future to Liverpool, even though events were no longer unfolding as he had envisioned.
While Liverpool have not indicated that Salah is available for transfer, interest from outside England is intensifying. Roma are among the clubs closely monitoring developments, according to reports from La Repubblica. The Italian outlet claims that relations between Salah and Liverpool have worsened considerably in recent weeks, describing his working relationship with Slot and the club as strained.
Saudi Pro League clubs are also firmly in the mix, with financially powerful sides in the Middle East long known to admire Salah and eager to bring a global icon into their league.
Despite Roma’s interest, a move back to the Italian capital would be extremely difficult to complete. Reports suggest that Salah’s current salary of €24 million per year would require Roma to raise around €12 million to facilitate a six-month loan, even if the player agreed to reduced personal terms. La Repubblica acknowledges that the financial barriers are significant, making the deal unlikely in January.
As a result, Salah is viewed more as an aspirational target than an active negotiation, with Roma also considering alternative attacking options. Nevertheless, clarity on Salah’s future is expected soon, as he is set to make a major decision once he returns to Liverpool following his AFCON commitments.
